Known as the Grandma Moses of Northern Indiana. Emma Schrock (1924-1991) was born in an Old Order Mennonite family. She was unable to have children and never married. She began painting at age 40. She lived her life in the rural Goshen, Indiana near Wakarusa, where she was born. The nearby town of Shipshewana has a locally well-known flea market. Schrock earned her living as a painter. This Airing the Quilts painting was finished on May 28, 1987. The artist's signature is included. This piece measures 19 x 14 inside the rough-hewn wooden frame which was custom made. Paint on canvas. With frame work outside this measures 25 x 21. Weight is approximately 7 pounds. Ready to hang.
